Damn Starbucks!
Um, ya.
Would they like some cheese with that whine?
:)
that's beyond stupid.
Whatever! :::rolleyes:::
Dude, Number 13 is so me! Lucky number thirteen. And now, everyone, I would like for you to notice that I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER sign something like that.
Damnit. Guess I can't blog from Starbucks anymore.
Honestly, I think it is funny. I wonder how many people have "boycotted" my old paper? WAIT. NONE.
That's a little much.
Someone has too much time on their hands. Silly.
That's ridiculous. If you value your job that much, then don't go blabbing stupid stuff, or doing dumb things all over the internet like nitwit Queen of Sky did.
This woman clearly has too much time on her hands, but clearly from the level of comments it is a topic which a lot of people care about. I don't.
When I started blogging, not that long ago, it felt much more anonymous, I made the mistake of blogging under my name, which because it is so unusual, makes it incredibly easy to find me, which takes a lot of the anonymity out of it. I wish I had been more careful like my friend Paige, who never uses any family names or even mentions where she lives. There is more freedom in that.
Knowing how easy it is to find me, I am careful about what I say. So I have little sympathy for those who thought they could rant and not suffer consequences. Just here on Yvonne's blog, she was discovered by her brother and there were consequences. It's part of the deal when we blog, we never know who's reading us. The more open we are about our identity the more responsibility w have to take for what we write.
For example, I am all for free speech, but, for example, in the case of I feel ESPN was absolutely within their rights to fire Gregg Easterbrook, a public figure directly associated with ESPN, who also blogs publicly (under his name), and writes stupid racist or anti-Semitic comments.
It would be poor business practice and seen as condoning that kind of talk for ESPN to keep him on their payrolls. I am glad they fired his ass. It sends a strong message to his readers, those who admire his views, that while he is entitled to those views, they wrong and an embarrassment.
damnit, people are stupid. If you bitch about your work, and your boss, and your fellow employees ONLINE for the WORLD to see, you deserve what you get. Cripes almighty.
I think some people need to get back to fucking work. I mean, sheesh.
Um. and by "some people" I mean everyone who signed it, not you. Or maybe I did mean you. LIVE IN WONDERMENT.
xoxo
Once again people attempting to move themselves away from owning up to their actions.....people want to be able to do anything they feel free to do, but not own up to the consequences.....and we wonder where children are learning these things?
STUPID STUPID STUPID.
um, YEA. people and their stupidity never cease to amaze me. honestly, if you trash your job, your boss or whatever by NAME, you deserve whatever comes of it.
i'm fed up to here *raises hand up as far as humanly possible* with people refusing to take responsibility for their actions.
I don't get it why more people just can't say "Yes, I was kind of stupid." As the only person who has gotten fired for that reason on here, there comes a point when you realize that yup, they can fire you.
Plenty of people make mistakes. Making a very stupid mistake on the internet isn't exactly fun.
Dragging it out for months and months? Yet another bad choice.
SJ... Don't think for one minute that I think YOU were stupid. YOu made a mistake and you paid a price for it. Also? You owned up to your mistake. We are not our mistakes (OMG. I GOT THAT FROM OPRAH). HOWEVER, this QofS is a different story. She doesn't take any responsibilty for her mistake and now is screaming "blogger rights!" (*pukes*)
I just don't want you thinking I even put you in the same league as her. YOu know PopeAkahn loves you, cheesepopcorn feet.
Don't worry, I think I'm stupid half the time. I just think its time for "some people" to move on.
Did I miss something? All of you, who are reading a blog and presumably have your own blogs, think that the concept of people being able to defend their own right to expression is stupid.
Can somebody please explain to me what I am missing?
Is this about not wanting to boycott Starbucks?
oh man, SJ... *hugs* i totally didn't lump you in the same league with that fuckwit QofS either.
we all make mistakes, being a big enough person to admit it and move on makes me admire you a ton.
a stupid person (AHEM, QofS) makes a mistake and blames everyone else for her lack of good judgement and then begs all of us to stand up and blame everyone else with her.
Jen... are you kidding me? This isn't even about Starbucks.
"it's been determined that based on inappropriate photographs in your Delta uniform posted on your website that we're going to terminate your employment"
Ok. so she posted pictures of herself in provocative poses on the internet. She talks about losing count of how many times she's had sex on the plane (mile high club).
Delta didn't have a right to fire her for that?
Seriously? Why? Because SHE'S A BLOGGER?
That's bullshit. Why should bloggers get special treatment? You can't go on a website and talk about shit you do on the job that's against company policy and then bitch that your rights were violated when you get caught.
(p.s. she posted the phone call of her firing.)
and? I didn't really want this to be about "her" necessarily, but about the concept of "blogger rights".
Jen, I can understand what you are saying. I think the big thing here is responsibility. If you have a blog, then you should probably be ready to accept responsibility for the fact that perahps, your boss isn't going to like what you have to say. Or your family or next door neighbors or whoever.
I think my big deal is that it is time for "certain people" to stop beating a dead horse and to move on. For starters, get a job. Showing up on every talk show, radio show and newspaper isn't helping.
I feel for her that she got fired. It SUCKS. I can't even tell you how much it sucks because honestly, IT IS BADDDDDDDDDDDD. Very, very bad.
But, there's just a time when you say enough is enough. I think we reached that time months ago.
You have the right to free speech, and they have a right to fire your ass. Such is the way it goes.
I seriously missed the fact that it was the Delta chick-- I wasn't kidding.
I think that if you name your company and your co-workers and have your name clearly identified on your blog, that is one thing.
But if you do not name your company or your co-workers or yourself, and you mention the fact that you work, then that is another. That's all I'm saying. I don't think that we should be in danger of being fired simply because we have blogs on which we could potentially post something.
And yes, you can get fired for that too. Actually, they are calling it, "Breach of trust," these days.
And that is just bullshit.
But you're right. They can do it.
It's reality. It's not going to change. Companies can do whatever they want, and if you sign a confidentiality agreement when you are hired, you've got nothing to complain about when they boot you. It is inethical for employees to be making the judgment calls concerning what gets discussed about their jobs, in the break room, online, or anywhere else. Post it on the interenet, it's there for the world to see. If it's there for the world to see, remember that your boss is part of that world, too.
Seriously. I'd say to that chick: Good luck getting employers to care, because they don't.
-H
That's the dumbest fucking thing I've heard all week...yet, it's only Monday. I still have hope.
Gosh....I hope I don't get fired for posting this comment.
And what's with Queen of Sky, anyways. I mean, she ain't even that cute. She's got a lot of nerve posting "sexy" pics of herself in her uniform on the internet. If for no other reason, she should have gotten fired for doing that while being only marginally attractive.
(the Bill of Rights for bloggers thing is stupid - clarification)
Jen, I was "anonymous" as well. I didn't even post "pictures" of myself and I still got fired.
(Right now, i just want to clarify that I'm not "starting" anything, if you could hear my voice, i'm actually very calm and levelheaded right now.)
Do I think my firing was "right?" They could have handled it better. But, they can do what they want. It is hard to admit that and it is hard to admit you've done something wrong, but I honestly believe anyone who doesn't is going to have a hard time moving on...
Hah! Fuck her man. I mean I dunno but yeah she sits and whines about being fired yet she is bent over and you can see straight down her shirt and she is on a Delta Airlines plane in her uniform. Yeah I would have fired her ass too. I have little to no tolerance for people like that. Hah! Get a clue QofS.
I don't know I kinda like it. I would hate to get fired from my job because of my blog. HATE IT!
The thing is, people--your place of employment is NOT A DEMOCRACY. Your employer has no obligation to give you the same "rights" that he or she enjoys. (Obviously I don't mean universal rights, like equal opportunity, etc) So while it kind of sucks, you can't say anything about your employer on your blog. If you do, you have to be willing to accept what comes of it. Some jobs will care, and some won't. It's up to you to figure out which kind you work for, and how much of the risk you're willing to take, and for what gain. Just like you might really want to wear your low-rider jeans and thong to work, but you decide not to, because your employer might fire you. (How dare they! Infringing on freedom of self-expression!)
Common sense and personal responsibility.
Not to say it wouldn't suck ASS to be fired, for any reason.
i've got an entirely different take on this than all of you.
i think that, since she's already been fired, she shouldn't stop at "seductive pictures." we wanna see some full-on Delta porn. i can see it now - a series. "The Mile High Club, featuring Queen of Sky."
i mean, if you're gonna get fired for something, you may as well make that "something" worth getting fired over, yanno?
Well, look at the source. And she's writing this crap as if she got fired for expressing an opinion or something. She got what she deserved - I'd have canned her ass, too.
Hmmm...makes me wonder if that's why I didn't get hired when I applied at Starbucks. lol
But seriously, does she think she's going to get hired by another airline? Especially after doing public interviews and drawing even more attention to the fact that she posed in a company uniform on a company plane? She needs to find another job and get over it.

Looks like Starbucks is blogophobic. I guess that means you're going to have to boycott them.
