HOprah

You know what?

Oprah's new season SUCKS THE BIG ONE.

It's no secret I pretty much hate Oprah for many reasons, good reasons, I might add. Reasons like making people who aren't trillionaires like herself feel like there's something wrong with them if they have mismatched towels. (Did y'all catch that show in which Nate had redecorated Jerry O'Connell's house and she was going OFF about his mismatched towels and said something really stupid like "You can tell a lot about a person from the way their towels look." and I was like YEAH, BITCH, by mine, you can tell that my family lives off of ONE very, extremely modest income and that money is used to FEED AND CLOTH the THREE HUMAN BEINGS I pushed out of my vagina, whilst pooping in the nurses hand in front of my mother in law, I might add and that I don't be havin' no freaking extra dollar bills to buy egyptian towels, HO") Or if they use "fake flowers" to decorate. The woman grew up poor and is going to make people feel like shit because they have mismatched towels?

Girl, please.

All of that said, I secretly watch her shows because, I think for the most part (Oprah's favorite things NOT included because, Good God, MAKE THE SCREAMING WOMEN STOP) her show is still the best talk show out there.

But not this year. This year? I get TV rage when I watch. Like, I WAITED ALL DAY TO WATCH YOU TALK TO KELLY CLARKSON?! Or to Sarah Jessica Parker about shoes that I can't afford? Or to Usher about HIS FAVORITE CHOCOLATE CAKE?

What? she's too good to talk to Non Celebrity Folk now? Celebrities don't get enough damn attention, now Oprah has to chat with them every day and we have to listen to them everyday?

Ok, once in a while she'll throw a token "real life story" in there, but for the most part? It's all celebrity all the time, and I'm sorry , but I just don't give a shit about "Matthew Fox's favorite restaurant in Hawaii."

Hey Oprah?

Suck it. And while you're at it? Kiss Our Truck.

Right on, Y! Let's send that twit this post. I don't watch her often, but jeez, I'm getting tired of it already. And man, those women need to stuff it.

Posted by: etherian at October 6, 2005 04:19 PM

Are you kidding?? Oprah wouldn't allow her pristine lips to touch that truck- it's door and top don't match the front. C'mon now- don't you know what that says about people whose vehicles don't have matching hoods and doors? ;-)

Posted by: Michelle at October 6, 2005 04:20 PM

I can't say I like or dislike Oprah since I've never watched any of the episodes. ever. never ever. in my whole entire life.

Posted by: Sunny at October 6, 2005 04:34 PM

I hate Oprah, specifically because of the "favorite things" shows. Like the rich ass bitches that are sitting there need all that free stuff. Why can't poor folks like me get something free?? (I guess I never will 'cause I won't be seeing Oprah.) Or she'll give a "deserving" person a car or something. Right, the times I saw that, the people lived in the big ass houses and had like 3 cars already. I'm living in a semi knocked over from the hurricane house with one car and one truck (worse than that one you posted, trust me) and no one's trying to buy me a new car!

I hate Oprah!! And I have issues about it.

Posted by: NinaKaye at October 6, 2005 04:48 PM

i kind of want to kiss your truck!

Posted by: shy me at October 6, 2005 04:52 PM

So I'm with you on the Hate Oprah bandwagon but that grrrrl can recommend a good book. Gotta hand her that much.

Posted by: Randi at October 6, 2005 05:56 PM

Wait, let me get my Word Shield and Suit of Armor on, before I say the next.

I like Oprah.

::ducks and runs::

Posted by: Nopoodle at October 6, 2005 06:06 PM

You are HOlarious. And so very right.

Posted by: surcie at October 6, 2005 06:07 PM

I really enjoy her "real life" shows. When real people talk about real issues in their lives. I never have liked the celeb ones much.

I do enjoy some of the style shows (or like, how to dress 10 pounds thinner) because there are good tips in there (to be taken with a grain of salt) and good LORD, would you not love to get on that Christmas show of hers? *sigh*

The odd thing about The Ope is on one hand, she "seems" to be in touch with the little people (e.g. her trip to New Orleans) but on the other, what IS up with the towel matching thing? And also, when she previews bras, for example, all the ones she previews are $60 or $80! Some of us don't spend that much on an entire year's wardrobe (ok, I do spend a bit more than that). But really, $80 for a BRA? How is that a reality that we can all identify with?

I will say that I adore her magazine. While it has some of the "snobbier" things in there (clothing and accessories that only the wealthiest of us could afford) there's a lot of good, solid content. So I happily buy that each month and wish she'd model her show after it :)

Posted by: reese at October 6, 2005 06:25 PM

Dig the magazine, don't really care for the show, lovelovelove Kathy Griffin's Oprah impression. ;^)

Posted by: Beth at October 6, 2005 06:35 PM

Never read her magazine. (Because? It bugs me to death that SHE'S on EVERY COVER. Oprah issues, I know)

I don't get mad at people who like her. There IS a lot to like. Infact, I used to LOVE her. LOOOOOOOOOOOVE her. But something happened to Oprah that makes me dislike her very much. Like, she has some sort of "god complex".

I know she does good works for people.

But I still hate her for the fake flowers/mismatched towel thing. I used to invite people over to my house until she made me feel like a piece of shit for how it looks.

Oh AND? She calls Salmon "Her Sammy." I can't like a woman who does that.

Posted by: Y at October 6, 2005 06:42 PM

I loved that she donated so much of her money to the hurricane victims, HOWEVER, I just wanted to smack the crap right out of her when I watched her shows that she did "on location" in New Orleans. For so many reasons.

I couldn't agree with you more.

Posted by: angie at October 6, 2005 07:00 PM

I stopped watching Pope-rah about 2 years ago when I got tired of her celebrity asslickings, preaching and put downs toward people who dont have her kind of money. Im sorry if I dont have matching towels and that I decorate with fake flowers (not really, I like my mis-matched walmart towels and fake family dollar store flowers), Oprah sucks!

Posted by: Paula at October 6, 2005 07:15 PM

What the hell? Sammy is a sandwich, not a fish.

Posted by: Annika at October 6, 2005 08:16 PM

why the hell were they all giving her presents? Please explain.

Posted by: Sarcastic Journalist at October 6, 2005 08:19 PM

I stumbled upon your blog and I am hooked. After reading the words Oprah and bitch in the same paragraph I knew I'd like you. I dislike her, too, for many of the reasons you do. Can't wait to read more about you. Btw, cute children you've got.

Posted by: Chana at October 7, 2005 04:22 AM

Oprah sure has lost her "Ope from the block" ability to identify with every one. The show where she said you can't use fake flowers was the day I started to flip her off with the remote but then the day when she said "When you have guests you just HAVE to have THESE chocolate chip cookies in their room for them."

People are lucky to get clean sheets in my house. You think I am sticking cookies crumbs in them?

Posted by: Debbie at October 7, 2005 04:48 AM

JOOOOOOHN TRAH-VOL-TA!!!!

Posted by: Nopoodle at October 7, 2005 05:05 AM

If i saw Oprah in person today, i would say....

Get off the cross, someone needs the wood.

That would be all i would say..........

Posted by: heatherg at October 7, 2005 05:50 AM

"EVERYONE GETS A CARRRRRR. YOU GET A CAR. YOU GET A CAR. YOU GET A CAR. EVERYONE GETS A CAAAAARRRRR."

I forgot. The third thing I hate about Oprah? When she pretends to know the words to songs when artist perform.

I have to change the channel in embarassment.

Posted by: Y at October 7, 2005 07:22 AM

I watched the other day when she had Faith Hill on. O actually said, "So do you still cook, cause I do." The look Faith gave her was priceless, "Yes, I still cook."
Before that O asked her routines with her kids. She said something about a nanny, assuming she had one. Faith was like um no no one else lives with us, she actually looked pissed..lol. now I know why that was her first time on O.

Posted by: Canadian Lauren at October 7, 2005 07:28 AM

I just started Tivo'ing it a couple of weeks ago for whatever reason, but now I can't stop watching it. It's like crack.

You know what scares me? The way her audience reacts when she comes out on stage. They're screaming and clapping and CRYING. CRYING!

Also, the way she interviews people about serious topics kind of makes me want to hit her. I always feel like her interviews are so dry and she doesn't give a crap about anything. Unless, of course, it's about Orlando Bloom's favorite place to eat in Kentucky.

Posted by: Wendy at October 7, 2005 08:26 AM

I really hate how she's all hug-ish with all her celebrity friends and then barely hugs her normal guest. I watched her episodes on Katrina and it struck me how she talked to people and touched them, seemed really ackward to me. Then you see Julia Roberts giving people full body hugs. I think that woman is too rich for her own good right now... she needs to come back down to earth.

Posted by: Carla at October 7, 2005 08:39 AM

Y i love coming to this site, you make me laugh, you make me cry.

I do like to watch Oprah, ok don't shoot me. She does do a lot of good for people, but i also have been shocked by all the things she says and i have to wonder if she forgot not everyone is as wealthy as she.

You know i was always wondering why everyone was so happy that she gave away all those cars. She didn't purchase them and give them away. The car company gave them to all those guests all she did was pick the people who got them and had them on her show to give them away. With all the moola she has she should have paid the taxes on them. Then that would have really been a gift.

Oh I'm with ya on the singin' the words to the songs. She dances in the audience and claps and tries to lip synch the words, even when she doesn't know them. That really annoys me. And I agree with Beth, Kathy Griffin's imitation of her makes me laugh so hard I cry. "I ain't bein' no slave."

Posted by: trish at October 7, 2005 10:25 AM

Yeah, that's the greatest.

And let me just throw this out there...

What is UP with "Gail"?

Posted by: Y at October 7, 2005 10:52 AM

When she has regular-people shows, she drives me NUTS, because she clearly has zero interest in what they're saying. You can see in her eyes that she checked out long, long, long ago.

The screaming standing ovation at the beginning drives me nuts, too. I mean, I don't CARE that her audience is losing their shit. Why can't they edit that out? WHY? Is it like, "See how beloved The Oprah is", or what?

Posted by: Miz Robyn at October 7, 2005 11:03 AM

See, I like gail. At least it's the one thing Oprah is keeping real, yo.

I would like to think if I were a billionaire, I'd do what I could to give my old school friends a break. Y, I would even make you in charge of hair.

Posted by: reese at October 7, 2005 11:16 AM

I gotta say that I've noticed the celeb shows on Oprah too and I'm disappointed as well. Booorrrring. If I wanted to see a celebrity on TV (besides on the TV show or movie) I'd like watch A Current Affair or something.

Posted by: Colleen at October 7, 2005 11:27 AM

Reese, it's not that I don't *like* gail, I just wanted to say "what is UP with Gail"

Same way I would like to say "What is UP with Jay McGraw?" Like, just because yo' daddy is Dr.Phil doesn't mean ANYONE HAS TO LISTEN TO YOU!

Posted by: Y at October 7, 2005 02:12 PM

I love her. Maybe it's becasue I'm a black woman and I feel like she does so much for Black folks - but damnit I loves me some Oprah.

I have to say though, I don't like these segments that the new show has but I guess after 20 years, you do something to try to change it up and it's just a shock to my Oprah-loving system.

Posted by: C at October 7, 2005 03:49 PM

Oprah just wishes she was Martha Stewart. They both have a stick up their asses, but it's sad when Martha is more homie and can hang with Busta Rhymes and Oprah ... well Oprah just can't.

I hate people that use their money to make people like them. People flip their shit because they wonder what gift O will bestow upon them. And Po-prah. Bahahaha!

Posted by: debutaunt at October 7, 2005 08:09 PM

I love Oprah but the same stuff you mentioned bugs me too. Fresh flowers... pppffffft... hahahah

I really hate the stupid celebrity shows. I swear, I just blogged about this in one of my entries - every time I'm off work, it's a STUPID episode. Bah!

Posted by: JustLinda at October 8, 2005 06:26 PM

Wow, I was thinking it was just me being bitchy again (still?) when I have been hating the new O season. Its not that I care about the celebrity stuff, its that she just doesn't seem to care about any of the segments she's doing.

And the SCREAMING. GOOD GOD THE SCREAMING. I think I have the TV on mute longer than I have it off. They scream when she comes out, they scream when the famous people come out, they scream when she gives them stuff like "OMG OPRAH JUST GAVE US ALL A STICK OF CERTS!! CAN YOU BELIEVE HOW EXCITING THIS IS?!?!"

I just got here from SJs post today. OMG I could have written this post! I am HATING her new SEASON! She is killing me. I also hate her/like the show - usually. But If I have to hear her say "It's a great way to wake up in the morning" one more time when her first guest comes out to SCREAMING Oprah-files I will beat the tv senseless. And her announcement about giving 10 million or whatever to the Hurricane Relief fund. Why can't she be cool and just DO it - not ANNOUNCE it. It screams "Look at me" As usual. BAH! HOprah is right!

Posted by: Susie at October 17, 2005 08:32 PM

Did she redo her set so she could showcase her actor friends in the light that they require? After Katrina hit....I went to her website and notice some of the posters were on her ass about donating money like the rest of us poor folks were.

After that she comes out and states how she was donating 10 million to Habitat America. Her net worth is over a billion dollars. Her Santa Barbara home has sprawling green lawns where her little dogs and her roam. Did she ever volunteer to put up shelter on her private property that cost her 60 million dollars. Yet.......I saw an unemployed couple with one child living in an apartment.....volunteering to let a homeless hurricane victim come stay with them. Did I miss seeing her volunteer one of her homes to shelter young teenage girls who were homeless. No......Did I see any other movie star volunteer to take in a homeless huricane victim....If there is one... please update me!

Bottom line....it is average Americans who do the volunteering and fighting in this country....while these liberal rich shits want to bitch on tv about being denied shopping after store hours!

She comes out each day...audience cheering her on....she holds her hands out...while nodding her head up and down...smiling...and then motioning the masses to please sit! Yes....I know I look gooood......oh you to there in the front row.....how cute you look!

Then the actresses and actors come out....their images larger than life now being projected on the screens....how sick this shit is!

I have not went to a movie since 1999...and will not pay a dime to these elite asses!

About Y
My name is Y, but you can call me "Jesse's girl." I am an Aerobic Dancer and have mastered many moves, but the one I am the most proud of is "The Monkey." I have three kids. ALL FROM THE SAME DAD (Because, did you know someone actually asked me that question?) A 15 year old son, a 11 year old son and a 4 year old daughter who was not planned but who is loved more than words could ever express. I am addicted to Starbucks, reality TV and to getting really good deals through coupons and "club member" savings (Please, respect The Costco Card.) I am extremely competive and if you don't believe me, just ask my husband about the time I sold him out to win a game of Taboo. If you're waiting for the part where I speak of my love for walks on the beach or slow dancing in the rain, you're going to be disappointed because my idea of a good time usually involves things like "burping contests" and "doing The Worm".
