NOT 38!

Her: I'll be 38 in September!

Me: Me too! What is your actual birthday?

Her: The 21'st.

Me: Mine is the 9th.

Her: So you were born in 70, eh?

Me: Um... actually...I was born in 71. *starts counting with my fingers* OH SHIT! I'M NOT 37! I'M ONLY 36! This entire year I've thought I was already 37!

And that is why this is going to be the best birthday since turning 30. Because I am a year younger than I thought I was and that's kind of awesome when you're approaching 40.

Since I post pictures of what my children look like on the morning of their birthdays, I thought it was only fair I post one of what I looked like when I woke up this morning. You're not imagining things. I really am that hot (Puff-ay!) and I really do have dandruff.

What NOT 38! but 37! looks like.

Happy Birthday!!!

And I'm NOT just saying this because we have to be nice to people on their birthdays... but I totally thought you were closer to 30 than 40. Like I would've guessed around 33ish. I guess that wouldnt make sense with the ages of your kids... but I never did the math (apparently, I am not a winner).

Posted by: AlwaysCurious at September 9, 2008 9:33 AM

Well, happy birthday! How awesome that you have a whole 'nother year before 40! Score!

And that early AM picture of you? Looks better than I look most days in mid-afternoon.

Just wanted to say thank you all for the birthday wishes. So nice to read.

Also, I really did think I was 37. I don't know why. Somewhere during the year, I just forgot my age and would tell people I was 37. I blame my thyroid, of course.

Posted by: Lauren at September 9, 2008 1:22 PM

Happy Birthday!

You can blame the forgetting on your thyroid all that you want. I do that all of the time. I was just at the doctor's yesterday and they wanted to know my age and it took me a little while to figure it out. I didn't help that my ears are all clogged and I thought she asked me what my H was? And I was all really confused. Luckily I can blame it on this cold. :)

Happy Birthday!! Birthday morning pictures are the best you look fabulous! Your story was funny, I was able to trick my husband for almost a year that he was a year older than he was...until my Mom was talking about how old he was and told him you are not 42! You were born the same year as Erik (my brother). The jig was up! We still laugh about how I tricked him for all that time, ahh it's the little things that keep a marriage alive! haha! He felt the same way you do like he got an extra year!
To SheilaG- I had our daughter thinking I was 25 until she was in 8th grade- one of her "friends" mom's let that cat out of the bag!

Posted by: talda at September 9, 2008 10:25 PM

Makes learning how to count when you were young all worth it, huh? You know this gives you a great argument you can present to your kids about how staying in school is cool and it'll keep them young.

Happy Birthday. A '71 baby here, too. I hear we better enjoy it because we will start falling apart after 40.

Happy Birthday Y!

I did the same thing last year, thinking I was 37 when I was still 36. Weird.. since I see there are others in your comments that did the same thing, maybe it has something to do with the year...?

Oh, and you look great in that photo - I would never dare to take one of myself upon first waking up. You so do not look 37!

Y - You look great!!! Happy Birthday and how awesome is it that you are actually a year younger then you thought you were? I was born in 79 and have thought I was a different age then I really am, but I have thought I was younger! That SUCKS!

Posted by: E! at September 10, 2008 6:25 PM

Younger people never believe me when I say you forget how old you are when you get in your 30s. They look at me skeptically like I'm making it up. And depending on what day you ask, I'll say the boyfriend is 41, or 42 or 43. He's 42. Doesn't look his age though, and neither do you! Happy belated, Y!

Posted by: mary at September 10, 2008 7:08 PM

Well, I am 47 -- really, I was born in 1961 and my birthday was in August -- so my brain cells could be totally fried. Happy happy happy to you.

About Y
My name is Y, but you can call me "Jesse's girl." I am an Aerobic Dancer and have mastered many moves, but the one I am the most proud of is "The Monkey." I have three kids. ALL FROM THE SAME DAD (Because, did you know someone actually asked me that question?) A 15 year old son, a 11 year old son and a 4 year old daughter who was not planned but who is loved more than words could ever express. I am addicted to Starbucks, reality TV and to getting really good deals through coupons and "club member" savings (Please, respect The Costco Card.) I am extremely competive and if you don't believe me, just ask my husband about the time I sold him out to win a game of Taboo. If you're waiting for the part where I speak of my love for walks on the beach or slow dancing in the rain, you're going to be disappointed because my idea of a good time usually involves things like "burping contests" and "doing The Worm".
