I recently made the decision to start working out again. There really are no words to express how happy I am to be “back in the gym” so why don’t I just go ahead and show you a picture I took last night as I was getting ready to leave to go torture myself on the elliptical machine.
(No, you’re not imagining it. I really am that beautiful. )
I hate going because I am a total trainwreck at the gym these days. (Thank you, Hashimotos.) My legs have actually given out on me while on the elliptical, I start wheezing after 10 minutes, I have to continually check my heart rate (because I’m not supposed to let it get over 150). It’s embarrassing, man. And yet, I soldier on because I know that it’s crucial for both my physical and mental health.
I don’t have high expectations of losing 70 pounds like I did before. My motivation is purely to improve my health so that sometime in the near future I’ll stop feeling like I’m half dead and maybe have the energy to give my husband an unexpected blow job again! And if I’m lucky? I’ll drop a pound or two.
In other news…
Next Wednesday I will be boarding a plane at 7 in the morning and making my way to New Jersey and then, New York City. My mouth literally waters when I think of all of the fun that I am going to have seeing old friends again, (and possibly, hopefully, meeting new ones) I could come up with a list as long as my tittays hang of reasons NOT to go (OMG! I need FIVE DIFFERENT OUTFITS!?!) but the benefit of being surrounded by friends in a city that I love outweighs every single one of the excuses I can come up with to not go.
(Did that make any sense? The Hash is RAGING today and I am having trouble thinking straight. Or maybe it’s not The Hash at all, but the effing smoothie I have been trying to drink since breakfast messing with my brain because who knew a pound of fruit could taste like something that comes out of ones ass?)
A pound of fruit? MORE LIKE A POUND OF JUICY FART, MAN. No, seriously, it actually tastes like a fart and I’m kind of pissed off that I spent $10 on 4 bottles of that crap.
You are a total star! I walk into town and back and have to nap for 3 hours to get over it! I know you will have fun in NY….I am flying to Boston in June to meet up with all my online friends….what would we do without the wimmins?

Ugh….I know how hard it is to get going with the work out. Even when you have so many motivating factors, it still sucks at the beginning. I’ve been sitting here reading blogs for the past hour just to put off my work out. Thank God you posted something….I get to stall just a little longer!
But good on you for getting out and getting going. There was some comedian that once said, “If I do just *one* sit-up, that’s more than most people do!” Sometimes that gets me going. If I can do one, I can do two, then maybe three….and then I’m on my way. Speaking of being on my way, I guess I should get going on *my* workout.

It takes herculean strength to get out from beneath the literal and figurative weight you are dealing with. I hope you know that by even walking through the doors of that gym you are fucking kicking ass. For me, motion has always helped ot chase the blues.
Now, as(s) for those smoothies, umm, anything drinkable that can also be chewed is a bad thing in my book and grittiness, not an adjective I like to assign to anything I ingest.

also decided to go back to the gym just two days ago and enroll myself. It will be my 3rd day today. And i am sweating like hell…But it feels good :D..love it…
i am like you, feel like crap, hate to go out, sick of my clothes and my body and sick of myself for feeling that way. i started going to the gym 3 months ago. it is humbling and humiliating but i tell myself i am a badass for doing it.

Way to go with the gym! I recently got back there too. And when I started two months ago I could only jog for 5 minutes. Now I’m up to 25. And it didn’t honestly take that long. It’s amazing how once we start exercising, our bodies catch up pretty quickly.
So keep at it! You may feel like a slug now, but you won’t always! That’s awesome!

I’m SO HAPPY that you’ve gone back to the gym. It SUCKS, it really does, when you get to a point in your life that you have to fight SO HARD with your body just to stay healthy. I’ve been going for 5 weeks now and the results are SO SLOW. Frustratingly slow. It will get better. Go fight those machines. Sweat. And BE PROUD OF YOURSELF every time you leave the damn place. This is what control is. Taking charge of your health.
1st time on Elipetical aka Death machine @ 188lbs 3 mins. and I was looking for the ambulance with the oxygen tank! Every 3 days I added 2 min. Now I can do 20-40 min. No fuss.
O, that bottled Sh1t! Ewwww bought a magic bullet my own fruit and make my own. Helluva lot cheaper and takes 2 min. to do. Occasionally on Fri. night I add a shot of white Rum and have a Dacquiri of choice. LOL

OK, if every woman in the world mentioned “finding the energy to give my husband an unexpected blow job or two” amongst their motivations for going to a gym, they’d never have to pay their own membership fees, EVER AGAIN. Okay first It tastes like fart is hilarious. Second I also hate hate hate to exercise. My friend did the Walk away the pounds with Leslie Sansone workout tapes. She lost 80 plus pounds. I have done them to, and when I do they work! It’s just walking no running, but it is an awesome workout. She also cut down her portions and took walks outdoors too.

We can hate the machines together. I can’t use the elliptical because my ankles are screwed up, but I use the treadmill religiously. I do have to be careful though because I have high blood pressure and a couple of weeks ago, I suffered a pretty severe asthma attack. They put me on Prednisone for it, but I swear to Hell, it screwed up my body. So now I get out of breath quicker. Sucks.
We can do it though, even if we have to flip off the camera now and then. 😀
Just so you know – I hate the elliptical machine. My toes go completely numb when I try it. I can do like 10 minutes. Ick.
As for that drink, I’ve never heard of it. But … maybe try making real smoothies. Maybe they would taste better?? (I say this having never made one).

I just signed up for a gym membership today, and I, too, am dreading it like the devil himself.
And my husband thinks “it tastes like a fart” is about the funniest thing he’s heard in a long time.
OK, I am so not trying that “juice.” Why does everything good for you taste like dog shit? About the exercise: you’re already way ahead of me because I refuse to subject myself to the elliptical; too much bouncing and balance involved. On the once-in-a-fucking-blue-moon days that I got o the gym, I do the treadmill where I start at a nice normal pace and then gradually amp up the incline so it’s like I’m walking up hill. This gets me the exercise in a more steady fashion, I feel. Not like I have bodacious ta-tas that make bouncing unpleasant; I just like to pretend I’m cruising in a million-dollar yacht rather than riding an irritable camel.
I happened to catch Dr. Oz (of Oprah fame, have you heard of him) and his radio partner Mike Croizen (may be misspelled) talking about thyroid problems and specifically Hashimodo on Oprah XM radio yesterday. ANYWAY, Mike’s expertise is thyroid problems and he told the caller who was trying to both get her numbers right and lose 40 pounds NOT to jog on the treadmill or use the elliptical. He told her the best exercising to lose weight while trying to get her thyroid numbers in line was walking and weightlifting. He said weightlifting is really important. You seem like you are becoming your own expert, but I thought this might be helpful and point you in another research direction. Hugs,

I started going to the gym this week – made it three times! I used to like working out (sort of) when I was in my 20’s and there was a lot less of me. I have so much weight to lose at this point that it is pretty overwhelming. It will take quite awhile to see any results, but I’m almost 36, am having some health problems, and have NOW decided I want to have a baby. What great timing. Couldn’t have made that decision when I was 25, healthy, and trim, right? Sure, I wasn’t married then and was in grad school and working 40 hours/week…but still! Keep on keepin’ on and I will too.
I started working out @ a different gym yesterday and signed up. Sucks b/c I am paying for 2 memberships, but oh wells (long story). Hope I can keep it up. You look like you will give Hash a swift kick in the arse!

If you look at other people who are the same proportions as you, you get a better idea of what you actually look like to other people. For example, they teach children to have faith, for understanding the god’s geographical clues hurts people by illustrating negative things, opening the door for the god’s to employ deceptive tactics.
