Five. Oh.

At the beginning of the week I made the decision to give up my lattes.
Let me be more specific. I made the decision to give up my every! single! morning! Starbucks, grande, non fat, upside down, caramel macchiatos.
I made this decision for several reasons.
I seem to have hit a plateau with my weight loss. I’ve been stuck at 49 pounds lost (188) for a while. I felt like I needed to switch things up diet wise as well as kick things up workout wise. The lattes are full of carbs and sugar and I’m not supposed to be putting either of those things into my body. (Well, some carbs, yes. Those kind of carbs? Absolutely not.)
I love caramel macchiatos. I’m addicted to caramel macchiatos.
When Monday morning came around, I knew that it was going to be hard to NOT DRIVE TO STARBUCKS after I dropped G off at school. I knew it would be a struggle to turn the opposite way and drive home.
So, I decided to go for a run in place of a drive to Starbucks.
The distraction worked. After my run (I ran a mile! At the park! The park I could barely walk at without wheezing. RAN! IT! ALL! THE! WAY! WITHOUT! STOPPING!) I had no desire to drive to Starbucks. So, I did it again the next morning. And the next. But the morning after that, I decided I should get dressed so I didn’t take my daughter to school while wearing sweats again and so I COULDN’T go for a run because I was wearing strappy sandals and if I couldn’t go for a run, I had to go to Starbucks because that is how LIFE WORKS AND THIS IS WHY I DON’T GET DRESSED UP IN THE MORNINGS. Also? I’m weak.
But, that was just one day and I’m over it. Slip ups happen. You learn from them and move on.
In addition to running in the morning, I’ve also been going to the gym in the evenings to do weight training. Two workouts in one day! I don’t even know who I am anymore!
I tell you all of this to day, I finally broke the plateau because last night when I stepped on the scale it said 187, which means I’ve officially lost 50 pounds.
I can now say that MORE THAN halfway to my goal. And that is amazing to me.
What my ass looks like 50 pounds lighter.

I am so damn proud of you. You are one of the strongest inspirations that keeps me going DAILY. I know that’s silly but I think of you often and feel you kicking my butt out the door. 🙂
    Love you lady.

  2. Mocha

    Holy amazing, ass girl.
When I open my greeting card company that’ll be the first one I create.
I love you so much. Good on you for this whole blasted, difficult thing.

  3. NYCrystal

Lady you are an inspiration for me 🙂 I need to get MY ASS to the gym, I seem to have fallen off the exercise bandwagon and can’t seem to get back on…but I will. Congratulations!!

  4. Julia

  5. Angela

omg! go you! that’s so impressive! here i am commiserating about gaining 10 pounds and being back to needing to lose 30 pounds. and you are totally kicking ass…literally!

  6. Julie @ The Mom Slant

You have no idea how proud of you I am. Seriously, I’m all sniffly over here. Not only because you look amazing, but because you are getting healthy and setting a fabulously healthy example for your kids.
Much love to you. Keep up the awesome work.

You should put the money you used to spend on macchiatos and put it towards a designer jean fund for when you hit your goal weight. Post-twins, I went to a Nordstrom jean fitting when I hit my pre-pregnancy weight and my ass has never looked so good!
    (or maybe a lens fund?)

  8. Redneck Mommy

I am so proud of you. You are an inspiration. Truly. Thank you for reminding me what a person can accomplish with a little determination and whole schwack of hard work.

  9. Norma

You are completely amazing!!! You really are an inspiration. I’m curious, are you following a special diet program or just a general cut back on the bad stuff?

  10. Maggie

Good for you! Honestly running can turn into something you look forward to doing. For me there is nothing better than running with my favorite tunes playing on a sunny day.

  11. Jeni

Congrats to you, that’s amazing! I was going to pass on my workout tonight, but you have inspired me to keep it up 🙂

  12. girl

You are seriously an inspiration, Y. It’s time for me to kick it into gear and lose my baby weight (and then some).

  13. Marie Green

Wow. Just… wow. I went running tonight. I didn’t want to, but I thought of you, and all you’ve accomplished, and then I did it. Thank you for that.
Also, I know this is a FAR from original idea, but have you thought about doing something special for yourself with all the Starbucks $$ you are saving? Maybe putting that money towards another goal- something fun for yourself (camera lens, clothing, whatevs)- would make the giving it up less painful and more of a project….
Do you make coffee at home now? I don’t know how to give up coffee (I brew it). Ideas???

  14. Willow

Wow! The difference in those two pictures is awesome. Congratulations and keep up the brilliant work.

  15. Mrs. Flinger

Dude, that’s my drink, too! I gave it up about a year ago. hardest. thing. ever. But worth it. I can’t wait to smack a piece o’dat! 😉

  16. April

OMG you look awesome. Way to go, yo!!
Also, if you want some running inspiration, read “Born to Run”… I am a crap runner and now I am buying Vibrams and feeling like I am a real runner which is totally not true 🙂

  17. The Tutugirl

    Congratulations! You look awesome.
I woke up this morning not sure if I was going to get my workout in today. You’ve inspired me to do it no matter what.

  18. heidi

wow!!!! you look fabu! I kicked it up a notch in my workout this week too – no scale so much for me. but I feel like I am taking up less space.

  19. Jess

you don’t know me – but i’ve followed your blog for a while and just wanted to tell you that you look amazing.

  20. eli

I don’t know where my comment went for Mikey and family – but I just wished to offer my condolences. He was such a brave and knightly kid/man to get involved in something like that…I am sorry he seemed to die for something so senseless, and it is so da**n easy to say – God has a purpose…but he does. It just so does not make sense when one you love so much is no longer here. May his family find some peace – I am with them in thought and will say a prayer for them, I hate to say I will and then get so wrapped up in my life and forget. I will tonight before bed! I tried to donate a little something (I have a little in *my account* at paypal but PP makes wanted me to enter an additional account, which stinks – because I have what I wanted to donate in my account and I ain’t given another account for them to access…) Anyhoo – you rock, and I am so glad they have you and your family in their lives.
My ass is – according to hub – a continental shelf. I am slowly but surely going to get it off – but something within needs to change first…

  21. TJS

Change is HARD, but look at that amazing payoff! I second the commenter who said put the savings toward a jeans (or lens) fund.

  22. Dyane

    Nice Ass.
You make me wish I had taken ass pictures when I started my weight loss journey, just so I could see how much of a difference there is like everyone keeps telling me 🙂

  23. Jenny

I have PCOS and insulin resistance and have been SLOWLY taking off weight. So far, 30 pounds down. I don’t work out like you do, and looking at this makes me see the kind of results I could accomplish if I did. I mean, when I do. Thank you for that.

  24. Cristie

I know I should say all nice things about what a good person you are, but seriously let’s focus on that ass!! Incredible difference! You look amazing from the back hot mama. Congratulations to you!!!

  25. RoseC

First up, CUTE jeans! Secondly, you look awesome! Caramel machiatos are pretty irresistible (my old Starbucks favorite). I now drink a smaller nonfat latte with Splenda (love that stuff) and actually look forward to one every morning now. Also, it’s not the same, but a lot of independent places have zero-cal Torani-type syrup that can make things more interesting.

  26. Rachael

Dude. DUDE! That is so awesome. And if a picture is worth 1000 words? Those pictures of your butt are worth like 10,000. Great job!

  27. WarsawMommy

Oh my God! What an amazing difference. Great job!
OK, that’s it. I’m inspired… I have put off exercising for TOO LONG. No more excuses. Your 50-pound-lighter ass has kicked my 50-pound-too-heavy ass into action.
So, thank you! I’ll come back here and look at your ass when I need some more inspiration. I hope that’s not too creepy 😉

  28. addy

Wow. You are amazing. And very couragous I might add. Some many people would not be willing to share the before, during and progress photos like you do. Well done! Keep up the great work.

  29. Katrina

You are such an inspiration. I am at the beginning of my weight loss journey and you give me so much hope!
Thank you for sharing your story, and congratulations on all of your hard work! You rock!

  30. Jessi

And what a great ass that is!
Er, well, according to all the other comments, I should be saying that you look awesome and congratulations. If I were to comment like I normally would elsewhere, I’d also say “keep up the great work!” But come on, you specifically showed us your behind and frankly, your tush looks amazing.
Oh, and I love your hair color there. Maybe it’s just the lighting, but it looks really cool.

  31. mom, again

Yay! Thanks to YOUR blog, I’ve been dieting and exercising regularly for a couple of months now. I’ve only lost 12 of my 80 lb goal, but I have builded the muscles so, that’s OK. Honestly, I can see the beginnings of muscle definition at the edges of the blobby mess that is my bellah. I won’t post pictures, your welcome.
Thank you, Y, for showing me how hard it was for you, cause I see it working for you and I know I’ll get there too.
I’ve simplified my drink to a tall, non-fat, 2 pump vanilla latte. (3 pumps is now too sweet, ick and the elaborate concoction I used to get is undrinkable). And I don’t get one every day anymore, lately it’s been twice a week. I don’t feel bad about that.
This time next year, we will be two fit women! (Heather is looking good too!)
