Getting old sucks. Nothing good about it!
At least you’ll always be younger than me ( I was 35 in January)… And hell! You look like you’re 26 with your perfect skin 🙂
    Happy happy happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday, beautiful woman. I think you’re amazing and brilliant. I know I speak for many in saying this.
Please, dollin, you’re not old. 105 is old. Anyone younger than that has a chance for growth, pleasure and love.
Love your age, dear Y. It’s who we are.
Trust me on this, Joy Readers. I speak from the vantage point of my happy, upbeat 51 year old self.
    Much love to you, Y…

Happy Birthday ! (yup I am newly 35 myaelf and feel told too, but I have also been expereinceing
    a certain renewal ! ) Have a great birthday !

  5. Y

Thank you all for the birthday wishes.
I don’t like to make a big deal out of my birthday, so I usually don’t mention it here, but I had written this long, depressing post about turning THIRTY FIVE, but my God, it was horrible, so I deleted it and decided to sum it up with “Crap, I’m old” because CRAP! I’M OLD.
Also? I’m screwed! Because EVERYTHING (which is only 2 things) that I want for my birthday, I can’t have for my birthday because my computer is a piece of shit that is good for nothing and is not compatible with the things that I want. So, basically, the new camera I was going to get? Can’t get it because I can’t use it without a new computer. The MP3 player that I want? Can’t get it because I can’t download the music with my computer. SO, I have to get a new computer but haha, they’re so damn expensive, I can’t afford one yet, so the money that I was going to use for my camera is now being saved for a computer. Looks like the camera isn’t ever going to happen and I’ll have to settle for a bottle of new perfume for my birthday.
DAMN IT, BEING PERPETUALLY BROKE REALLY SUCKS.
But not as hard and as much as turning THIRTY FIVE.

I posted the above comment before reading the beautiful comment from Grace.
Grace, I love you. You’re so wise and I love your perspective on age. Thank you for that, because, man, I was feeling depressed.

  7. DebbieS

Happy birthday, fellow Virgo! I feel your pain, I turn 35 on Friday! Come down to San Diego, I’ll buy you a Starbucks 😉
What kind of mp3 player are you looking to get? If you get one like a friend has, you could always “load” it on their computer temporarily. Besides, music is great motivation to go to the gym! I’d never last without mine. (If you get a Creative Microphoto, I volunteer to lend you my computer to load it.)
Now go have a good dessert, like cake or Pighunter or something 😉

I was feeling old after reading that you were feeling old cuz I’m older than you but then after reading Grace’s post, I feel better too.
Happy Birthday! I hope you have a wonderful day.

  9. Brandi

I recently stumbled accross your site and love it. You are so relatable and make me laugh. Cheer up, 35 is not old. I just turned 33 in August and although I sometimes feel old, I know I’m being ridiculous. They say 35 is the new 25. Knowing what I know now…I’d pick 35 over any point of my twenties any day. Happy Birthday.

  10. Mamacita

Dear Y, Grace is, as always, absolutely correct. Besides which, Grace is also younger than me, as is probably everybody in the active blogosphere except dear Hoss. You aren’t old now, and you will never be old as long as you keep this wild and untamed and loving heart you show us. And I believe that you will. WE are never old. It’s just our bodies that sometimes wear out, and you aren’t anywhere near that phase yet. You have that sparkling and lovely quality of perpetual youth, not the pathetic kind that tries to be always young, but the wondrous kind that IS always young.

  11. Lisa O

You absolutely are NOT old! Happy Birthday fellow Virgo!!!! (I’ll be 42 on the 20th)
I hope you are having an awesome day and that your family is spoiling you rotten.
    Hugs

When I was like, I don’t know, 18 say, I thought those people in their 30’s were old. Now that I am 35 I want to kick my 18 year old self because 35 is not old! I won’t believe it. I do believe my eggs are getting old though. That’s a different story. And it’s your blog and your birthday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope you have a fab day and evening. It’s YOUR new year…celebrate.

  13. amy

YOU ARE KIDDING ME, RIGHT? Why didn’t you tell me? Hmm. Well, consider that Iced Tea your birthday present I guess. I”m cheap, so that’s about right anyway.
    Happy Birthday, beyatch!

  14. Y

    Wow.
Today, my parents and my sister took me out for lunch and gave me beautiful cards and presents, and then later in the day one friend (whom I met ONLINE-and whom I love dearly) called to wish me a happy birthday, but not one of my real life friends or family called and I was feeling a little bit sad and dramatic about it (OMG! WAH! I HAVE NO FRIENDS! I SUCK!)
But then! I came home and read all of these kind, funny birthday wishes and my God, I feel so lucky to have such awesome people that take a little time out of their lives to let me know they care. So, thank you for that. You all made my day.
I just may have to record myself doing “The Worm” as a thank you.
    haha.
    xoxo

  15. Kristin

Y! Happy Birthday girl! I’m 39 now, and I tell you, the closer I get to 40, the better it looks.
I wish you the sweetest of days. 🙂

  16. dana michelle

Crap. Your birthday snuck up on me again. Glad I stopped by tonight before I totally missed it.
Happy 35th birfday, Y!!!!! By the way, you are NOT old at 35!
I celebrated your birth by moving 18 years worth of storage into my fiance’s basement.
Hey, only the best for you. Mwahhh!!!!!

  17. MsInterpreted

I should have known you were a virgo! LOL Maybe that’s why I relate to so much you have to say. Happy Birthday from one virgo to another. I wish I looked half as young as you do!

  18. Flipp-ay

Old? hahahaha! I’m older than you, and younger than Grace, but last year, when my aunt turned 90 (got that, 90!), we had dinner at N9NE, and then went upstairs and partied at ghostbar. So, you have at least 55 more party years left in you.
    Happy birthday, hot stuff!

  19. Lisabc

Happy Birthday Darling Y! Welcome to 35! I promise it won’t bite you in the ass or walk all over your face. (That’s your husband and children’s job!)
Take comfort in knowing that there are many of your devoted readers who are older than you!
    You look mah-vellous!
    {{{hugs}}}

  20. kristin

Ack! I emailed you on your birthday and didn’t even know (that it was your birthday).
    Ok, so, um… Happy Birthday!
PS I am 37… in my LATE thirties to shut up because I don’t want to have to smack you.

  21. FishyGirl

My grandfather, who is 82 and still gets down on the floor to wrestle around with his great-grandkids, says age is an attitude, and I believe him. He can run circles around most people younger than me, and he complains about living in his retirement community “with all those damn old people” (he moved there for my grandmother). You got lots and lots of years yet in you.
Besides, I’m older than you, so you can’t be old yet – that would make me old.

  22. Kristie

Happy Birthday! If it makes you feel any better, I turned 40 last week …. I subscribe to the theory that “old” is whatever your own age is … PLUS TEN YEARS!!! 🙂
Hope it was a great one,
    Kristie

  23. Fiona

If 35 is old woman, what on earth is 47 LOL…..you’re not old….when you can no longer do the worm, THEN you’re old!!!
Big birthday hugs just a little late

  24. robin

Huh. I wouldnt have guessed you were a virgo. Happy birthday, you old broad 😉 Just kidding of course, I turned 35 a few weeks ago too. Man, we are old.

  25. Dawn

Happy Birthday to a fellow BB7 watcher!
I was so sure of Janelle’s super-HOH winning power, I was stunned when she lost to Boogie. Erica is soooo gonna loose. Too bad she thinks she’s in the money, just like she thinks her and Boogie are gonna hook up after the show! OMG, so sad!

  26. Angel

Happy Birthday to you! You are an amazing woman. Thank you for always sharing with us. I hope you have a blessed year.

  27. Carrie

Happy Birthday! Not old, beautiful and full of life. And a million other compliments I could think of.
And, heh, Boogie cried! You are the first person I have found that loves that as much as I do! And his sad little ring, ring, nobody answers call. Heh. Loved it! He had better not win.

  28. jennifer

Tell me about it! I turn 34 this month and my fifteen year old daughter – she stole my body! I swear it – I was that exact size at her age. If only I’d known then how HOT I was… sheesh.
    Happy Belated Birthday…!

  29. Helen

See, this is how it is, old is pretty good, I am 43, somehow stuff keeps getting better, I like it. Things are allowed as you get older, even bingo arms are Ok when you get old. It doesn’t get better than that, actually it does, your kids get older and then they leave home and call you up and ask if you want to go to Rome..and they will pay. Old is SO cool!! Poor you, you are only 35, a veritable spring chicken, try not to mind because you will be old one day and then ….YIPPEEEEE!

  30. Kymba

Yep, 35 is just marinated well. And I agree, with Brandi, thirties are waaay better than twenties.
Remember girlfriend, it’s not the age but the mileage that kills ya. You haven’t even had your first tire rotation yet!

  31. desiree

My birthday is today. 9-11. Be happy that you are two days before me. From one fellow Virgo to another HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 35 is not old. You have a beautiful family. You do not look a day over 29. I hope it was wonderful.

  32. Kim

Hope you had a wonderful birthday! I always figure if God allowed me to live on this Earth one more year then I’m grateful. Even though life is hard! That’s how I got through my 30th. That and the big bottles of wine. ;>)
I love your blog. I just found you today!

  33. Nila

Dang, I’m always late – on Mexican time as usual. I still wanted to wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY. You make me laugh on a daily basis, and how do you repay someone for that? I wish you the best. If I knew you personally, I’d call you and sing “Las Mananitas”.
